Strong-hybrid incentives: where they apply
Strong hybrids sit between petrol and EV — the efficiency case, and where incentives do (and don’t) apply.

Strong (self-charging) hybrids deliver big city-efficiency gains without needing a charger, making them a practical middle path between petrol and full electric.
The efficiency case
By running on the electric motor at low speeds and recovering energy under braking, strong hybrids can be markedly more efficient than equivalent petrol cars in stop-go traffic.
Incentives vary
Unlike pure EVs, hybrid tax benefits are inconsistent across states. Check whether your state offers any road-tax relief, and weigh the hybrid price premium against your yearly fuel saving.
