Monsoon driving: a quick safety advisory
Practical monsoon driving tips and the car checks that keep you safe when the roads turn wet.
1 Jun 2026

The monsoon brings reduced grip, poor visibility and waterlogged roads. A few simple habits and pre-monsoon checks dramatically lower your risk on wet roads.
Prepare the car
Check tyre tread and pressure (worn tyres aquaplane), test wipers and washer fluid, ensure all lights and the defogger work, and confirm the brakes feel firm. Carry a basic emergency kit.
Drive for the conditions
Slow down and leave a longer following gap — stopping distances rise on wet roads. Use headlights in heavy rain, avoid hard braking and sharp steering, and never drive through fast-moving or deep water; turn around instead.
If you must cross water
Only attempt shallow, still water in a low gear at steady revs without stopping. Stalling in water risks engine damage that insurance may not fully cover — when in doubt, find another route.
